Election Tainted By Misinformation, Ballot Shortage

In the final hours of of the 2012 Municipal election, reports surfaced that voters were being turned away in an unknown number of polling places around the city due to an apparent shortage of ballots. The Honeman for Mayor campaign received reports of some voters being instructed to vote on sample ballots and napkins, while other were being sent to alternate polling places to see if they could find ballots there, or just being turned away. When you vote, remember that the ballot has two sides, on one is the Mayor’s race, and I hope you will vote for me, Paul Honeman. On the other, there are a few other items including Proposition 5 which will give our gay and lesbian neighbors the same legal protections that our straight neighbors currently enjoy.

Mayor Misrepresents Port Costs

A draft report dated March 28th details cost estimates for completion of the first phase of the Port of Anchorage expansion project. The report, prepared jointly by the U.S. Department of Transportation Maritime Administration and Integrated Concepts and Research Corporation (ICRC), puts the high end costs for completing phase one of the project at $707 million. Mayor Dan Sullivan has stated that completion of the first phase of the port expansion would cost only $350 million. More →

Proposition 5 is important for Anchorage, and I support it fully. The Equal Rights Commission would be responsible for enforcing Proposition 5, but the Mayor would still have the power to cut the Equal Rights Commission out of the budget.
